I think the real issue is that parshal's dog has the runs.
Whipworm can be hard to detect and the bowl movements are normal ,then soft, then runny, then back to normal again.
A dog will loose weight because of the nature of the whipworm. Nasty things!
You have to catch the right bowl movement to catch whipworm. I would treat for it if it has not been done yet and treat for 4-6 times. If it is whipworm the area will be infested and will have to be treated so it doesn't reoccur or other dogs get it.

Thanks Pixie.  I might try that.  If it were any type of worm I'd expect my other two dogs to have it, too.  That goes especially for the pudelpointer that loves to snack on the shorthair's droppings.

see'n'spots: "Can we presume the vet checked for worms & the GSP is treated w/preventatives?"

parshal responded: "Yes."

I started Kal on Iverheart Max that adds tapeworm control, but may not control whipworms, although some other heartworm preventatives claim to. After nasty heartworm, the 4 most common parasitic worms are tape, hook, round & whip. In addition to monthly heartworm preventative I'd used Panacur or Safe-Guard annually to knock out tapeworm.

I'd also expect the other "dogs to have it, too". However a lack of symptoms does not preclude it.

For the Grizzly Salmon Oil, check www.grizzlypetproducts.com for additional information. I checked some prices (jbpet.com) and of course, like all other oil, the price has gone up. A 16 OZ pump bottle is $16.99. All in all tho, its a good deal and really does wonders for coats.

King Oscar sardines had a price jump. Their traditional 2 layer sardines in olive oil are now $2.59 at Publix! Their lesser varieties are $2.39
