They are awfully cute and they look so strong.  In a couple of weeks, you'll be having a ball.

very cute pups!  I thought the litters were normally bigger with GSP's?  Is that true?

I would on average say GSP litters are more like 8 pups.  If you go to NAVHDA and look at the litter registration per month you will see alot of 8-10 litters and a fair number 1-4 litter sizes.  I am not sure why it works out like this.  My female is 4.  This is her second litter, and the first one had 4 pups.  Trego's mom wasn't a big producer either, so maybe it runs in the family.

wow 19oz is a big boy! Seems like bitches from large litters usually produce large litters. I have always believed it runs in families, but have no scientific proof. Have fun with them and keep the pictures coming!

Beautiful babies! I had heard that bitches tend to produce approx. the same # of puppies as the litter they came from. Avery was from a litter of 9 puppies and whelped 7. Terra came from that litter of 7 and whelped 8 last time.

I notice that their ticking is very, very light -- does it come in as they get older?  I don't think I've ever seen a GSP this young.

They will darken quite a bit. All non solid gsp's are born white and the ticking happens over a short period of time. It is quite possible they will be as dark as the mom in the pictures.

Here are a couple of shots from day 16.  In both photos the order is girl, boy, and girl.  They are getting around good and starting to growl and figure out who is the boss when mom isn't around!  I can't get them off photobucket rigth now I will try later.  Sorry

Matt

CONGRATS Matt!
Are you keeping one, or have you thought any further about it? Awfully nice breeding to not keep at least one.... ;-)
If your worried about the pup carrying on the seeming genetic connection to small litters, you could keep the Male and start looking for a future female addition to your home!

Money will buy a fine dog, but only kindness will make him wag his tail.

I am still waivering about keeping one. If I do it will be a female. I don't want to worry about a mother son breeding. You are right that I should keep one. I put a lot of time and research into picking a stud dog, to not keep one to improve upon.

Matt -

Beautiful puppies, and I never tire of looking at these little guys.  I know you would love to have bigger litters, but for me I have a female that comes from a line that has somewhere on average of 10 puppies.  I would love to breed her, but I am soooo picky on owners I probably would not find anyone good enough , and she would have at least 10 pups.  So, I have chosen not to breed at least for now.  Instead I am getting a male from a similar breeding and if he turns out nice I am hoping to use him as a stud someday.  If I could give up may day job and devote myself full time to my fur kids life would be wonderful.  Anyway, congrats on a nice litter.  I know you are proud, and you should keep one for sure.
