I think I paid $3.75 in Milwaukee, WI yesterday.  Makes it hard to get anyone offering transport assistance to save dogs these days.  SUCKS!

I had to seriously curtail my dog-running this season due to having to have 2 rigs on the road for our wacky work schedule, and the truck only gets 11mpg. Commute for both of us is 40 miles round trip every day. OUCH!!!!

Finally scrimped and saved enough to get a Toyo Matrix for commuting. Even with a small payment for what we hadn't saved up yet, we're ahead money-wise since it gets 30mpg.

We plan on getting a little enclosed trailer to tow behind the Pathfinder for when I need to haul the cart, but once we're back to snow again I'll be able to put sled/skis on top. And someday I'll be back down to running just 2 dogs again, which will mean I'll use the scooter for dryland training instead (bike rack works fine in that case).

I love my old truck, but times are a-changin'. I have 2 days of vacation scheduled just before Memorial day weekend with hopes to put in a veg garden. And shovel out the house. And potty training the kid. We'll see how much I actually get done on my 'restful' time off....

Those photos are hilarious!!

I've been paying $3.89 a gallon, course that's the super premium stuff.  Talk about bad luck....we went out and bought a car that needed the expensive stuff just before gas prices skyrocketed.   My husband figured out that we're paying about $15 more a tank than we were when we bought our car last May, and I dont even want to bother calculating how much more we're spending now that back when we bought the cheap gas for our old dinky car.

Regular is at $3.65, which is also not great.  We had to rent a car earlier this week and end up with a 2008 Honda Civic.  It got over 400 highway miles to a 12 gallon tank, which was pretty impressive.

We're paying about $1.20/L which leaves us WAY higher than you guys (1 imperial gallon = 4.55 L) !!!!

Meg -- we have a Matrix too and love it. We drove to Boston and back (8 hours each way) on 2 tanks of gas!

We are paying $3.64 a gallon  in Berlin ,Wisconsin. Yesterday it was $3.61 a gallon. I shop more locally now and am going to grow more vegetables now in my backyard. Tomorrow we are going to look for water gutter containers to collect rain water for watering the summer plants. I live 1 mile from my job so commuting is not an issue. We also changed our shower head to use less water. Now with the warmer weather I will dry clothes outside on the clothes line instead of using the dryer. And the biggest saving we did last year was to convert to heating our Wisconsin home with a pellet stove. (Corn home grown pellets made in Wisconsin, not overseas ;)Last year with a mild winter we save $800. using pellets instead of natural gas heating. This year with a more severe winter we saved over $1000 in heating cost so far and it is a cold May 1st so we may save more       Would be great  if others could give going Green tips to help cut cost  of rising gas prices!!

I drive diesel cars and here it's $4.15 per gallon.  BUT my car got 56MPG on the last tank.  It is seriously modified for speed and increased mileage.

Just another of my hobbies!

ABC News reported this week that gas prices are expected to jump $.50-$.60 over the next 2-3 weeks. Gas is sold via the same principles drug pushers use. Its bought & sold repeatedly by middlemen who keep reselling it at an artificial profit. The record corporate profits being reported are obscene & IMO criminal. Name another industry that posts record profits when the price of their raw materials rise? Its obvious price gouging at an unprecedented scale. We've witnessed the largest transfer of wealth in history, from those who can least afford it to those who need it least. This was Bush's real 'Mission Accomplished'. Exactly what should be expected from the son of an oilman.

What makes it even worse is that even with the record profits.. they are STILL receiving government subsidies. Which means they get us at the pump and through our tax dollars as well

what really sucks about the whole thing is everything I do now I consider how much it going to cost in gas. The park I run Webster in is about a 20 mile round trip. that's over a gallon of gas in my gas guzzlling suv. It won't stop me from going but everytime I drive somewhere I think about the cost.

I guess one good thing will come out of this is maybe we'll stop wasting fuel. I know I now think twice about 'running out' at lunch and doing errands. When I do go out I try and combine errrands so I don't have to make multiple trips.

And if we have a "gas tax holiday" their profits will be even higher subsidized by the loss of taxes for our roads.  The oil companies know at what price they can sell every gallon that they refine and will raise the price until it reaches that price.

Why aren't sensible people like GSP owners running the country?! I agree with so many of these points....the government is really bailing out the wrong portion of society.

Not to start any heated discussion, but I think a gas-tax holiday combined with a tax on the oil companies would be a better solution.  That way revenue to maintain infrastructure will be collected from the profit-making part of the oil system.  Even better, the commodity speculators (AKA the drug dealers) should get the brunt of the tax.

As I heard on the radio this morning, the financial philosophy in this country has become fundamentally flawed in the last 10-12 years.  Salaries have not increased portionally to the cost of living, and people have been able to cover up this disparity by borrowing.  Now that credit is harder to come by, that buffer has disappeared and lower-income families can't afford necessities such as housing, food and gas.

our Ford is deisel, and we just filled up after our trip $4.35  We have the regular tank  40 gallon  and an auxillary that holds 88 gallons. The last night of our vacation, Greg filled us up and the bill was $292.  I'm not sure about the # of gallons or the price at that stop...BUT I was glad that I made the decision, to NOT BE INFORMED of the fuel bill for our trip.....   My origional calculation was the trip would cost us $2000  just for fuel.......So I just buried my head in the sand after that thought

Not sure about gas, My truck lasts weeks on a tank ( I just don't drive a lot )

Kind of makes me want to buy a goat to eat our lawn.....I don't even want to fill up the riding mower
