I have tried searching the web to find a growth rate chart for GSP's to see how my pup stacks up against the average GSP as far as weight, but can't find any charts.  Anyone know of one that they could send my way?  If not, what is the average weight (i know this varies depending on genetics) for a 5, 6, 7, etc.  month old pup.  When do they finally reach maturity and not grow any taller, or heavier?  Thanks.

Kevin

Kevin,
If you go to www.akc.org you can look up the breed standard for GSPs & it tells you what the proper size is for a full grown GSP male & female. They include weight & height. It does depend greatly on genetics though whether or not your baby will fit that standard. By the time your pup hits about16 months he/she should be at it's full height, but not filled out yet. Usually they fill out around 2 to 3 yrs of age to their fullest. At 6 months old my males were around 50 + pounds & females were at least 40 +. Full grown my girls average between 50 to 55 lbs, 23" & 23 1/2" & my boys are 65 to 74 lbs. My boys are from 2 different lines but are both about the same height (24" to 25 1/2") at the withers (shoulder). I hope this helps.

Thanks for the response.  Mine is at 5 months now and around 35 lbs.  He's a male.  I am hoping he won't be undersized, but I am not expecting him to be a monster by any means!  i suppose he is about on track, but maybe a little small?

I doubt you'll find any growth charts because it can vary so much from pup to pup.  I have one now that's barely a year old and has been over 22" at the shoulder since he was five months old.  He'll probably finish out at around 80lbs and 26" or so.

For the most part with males they'll get about 90% of their full height by 12-18 months, then begin filling out (if left un neutered) around 24 months reachign full physical maturity around 3-4 yrs.

Females tend to hit those marks a little sooner, but of course on average don't get as tall/long as males. CR

My boy hit the 35/40 lb mark between 5 and 6 months, my vet tells me he is right on track, but like you I have not been able to find a growth chart to confirm. So do I understand right in that as tall as he is at 7 months... he is STILL growing taller? Right now he is surfing surfaces and snitching whatever he can get his mouth on. Nothing is sacred around here when he gets in the mood.

Most likely he's somewhere around 75-90% of what his max height is going to be.  It can REALLY vary though.  I have a male now that probably hit his full  height by 12 months, have another that really bloomed and gained a couple of inches between 20-30 months.CR
