Out on the water in snowsuits. That's just wrong! But I hope you catch something. I keep on hoping to see an eel pout but I haven't yet!
Maybe some day, the snow will be gone. I hit a snow/ice boulder yesterday and ripped the skid plate off my car. I just don't like Winter. Too bad it lasts for more than 1/2 the year. If my house ever sells I won't have to worry about it anymore. I will be baking out by the pool with my dogs!

Why in the world do you WANT to see and eel pout? They are the most disgusting thing in the water. My husband would even rather cut the line and loose his lure than touch one of those things.

Tucker,
Ron looks happy....great fish
I'm not a fisher person..... I was when I was a kid .....creek trout, rainbows...Hood Canal rock fish, and assorted bottom fish... I never was a Salmon fan
We are famous for our Salmon here....BUT when I lived in Vallejo Ca. ( NAVY DAYS ) they went crazy for Sturgeon at the moth ball fleet area in
Susuin city ( spelling is prob a BAD ) They said some of those fish were ACTUALY pre historic, and they have limits as far as size TOO BIG !!!!
I mean they get over 8 feet in length
I LOVE a HALIBUT..................in my oven/ on my grill/ in my fry pan................in my tummy....
YOU crazy MINNISOTEANS... seem like REAL people to me.....
LOVE to hear all your stories

I've heard stories about them for years and never seen one! I even went fishing on Mille Lacs and couldn't catch one. All I ever get are Walleye.

OK, I see it now. You are CRAZY. "All I ever get are Walleye"??? Next you'll tell me that you've caught one that was "only, 30 inches". (I do hope you know that I'm teasing. I've seen a lot of misunderstandings on this site lately).

EEL POUT UCK, they are gross. If I knew you wanted a pic a friend got one last month that was 9-10 pounds! Pattyl, In Walker, MN every Feb. they have a EEL POUT FESTIVAL!! MAYBE YOU SHOULD GO TO THAT You don't get them in the summer, at least we have never heard of them being caught, only ice fishing
Nice Bass!
Well it ended up being in the 60"s & no wind yesterday & we had a blast!! caught a lot of really big Walleyes. Today is the last day for Walleye season until May 10. We couldn't keep anything over 18 1/2 inches. We got a lot of 24-28 inch ones. Best of all though was I got my first Sturgeon & the biggest fish of any that I have ever caught It was sooo much fun! It wasn't as big as Ron's, which isn't really that big, they can be over 100lbs. Mine was 43 inches. It had a tag on it so DNR will send me something telling how much it weighs, how old etc. We are going to go next weekend to as it is supposed to be in the 70"s. We will be using bigger rods then so it won't be so hard to get them! Actually Ron went to work at 5:00 this morning so we can go today again Ruger gets to go next time, He loves to be in the boat!
our friends Walleye-28inches

my Sturgeon

this is the river that goes into Lake of the Woods, on the left is US on the right is Canada[ Ontario ]

| the shots of the lake really make me miss Minnesota. I grew up in Minnesota. A couple of summers ago I vacationed on Gunflint Lake. The whole time I was there I kept saying, Webster would love it here! |

Did the GSP Page redirect me to Freezing Minnie's Fishing Weekly?
Here in FL the sturgeon, beleaguerd by commercial exploitation, overfishing, pollution & habitat loss, have had full protection for many years. The path to recovery has been far more difficult than hoped for, their range is severely limited & their future is still not assured. These days FL sturgeon usually make the news b/c of their habit of making spectacular free jumps which occasionally result in them colliding with cruising boats & even injuring passengers. |

So where's the picture of the eel pout? Surely someone has one!
I saw someone catch a huge walleye at Pierre once. I've never caught a 'big' one! |

Sorry if my reply obviously "bothers you". "I guess you don't have" any valid reason to think your post "bothers" me & seem to have a chip on your shoulder. I've been an avid angler for over 50 years & can never decide which I like better, pulling fish out of the water or out of the broiler. I've enjoyed eating sturgeon both baked fresh & smoked. I was going to ask if the MN sturgeon's flesh was orange/peach colored like the last inland sturgeon I filleted years ago, but restrained myself b/c it presumed you killed the sturgeon & was worried PETA types might give you grief. Certainly didn't want to get into Catch & Release debate. I'm very fond of sturgeon, have worked for UF studying their populations using gill nets & an old friend is involved w/hatchery research. Pardon me for sharing a little warm climate sturgeon chat. Come to think of it, maybe you're right. Outside of the freezing wet hands fishing, it probably "bothers" me a little on the basis of envy. My FL fishing license doesn't allow me to take a sturgeon, Even If it jumped at my boat, knocked the wind out of me & got killed in the collision! As far as claiming I "don't have to look" you've got to admit I DID have every reasonable expectation of seeing a GSP Topic when I did open this "to look". I didn't "have to" respond to the 1st post I read here NOT related to GSP. Where I come from "MOST of us...consider" a Forum as a place all are welcome to exchange ideas & would never urge anyone NOT to read or post. Even If you percieve a reply as a challenge "MOST of us" understand that is central to the function & purpose of a Forum. Thanks so much for the adversarial "MOST of us...everyone...we" expression of your hospitality. Suggest you speak for yourself & accept the fact that newbie or veteran alike "we" are all in the same boat. Here's a internet shorthand tip: consider using OT (for Off Topic) in a title that reveals a topic NOT related to GSP. |

You just seem to want to get into some sort of debate with everyone on here. We just want to all be nice & have a friendly forum. We didn't keep the Sturgeon. I think that they are so cool & I just wouldn't want to keep one. I don't care if some else does, doesn't bother me, I would just rather eat Walleye. You seem to think everyone is trying to debate with you, lighten up! Lets just keep every thing friendly. I won't post anymore fish pics. Lisa, We thought it would be to cold for Ruger, so he stayed home & he wasn't happy. He gets wild when we take the boat out!! Maybe this weekend, its supposed to be in the 70's Alice |
