Hello to all. I am a new forum member and look forward to getting and sharing GSH information.

I have a 3 year old female, Sophie, and she has really solidified this year in upland hunting. This was her 2 full year hunting, she broke her front right leg right at the begining of the 2010 season.

I picked up a new puppy from a reputable breeder in souther MO. Jake is 9 weeks old. He seems to be adjusting to his new home ok ... I brought him home at 6 weeks. We have 3 small breed dogs running from 5 yrs to 2 yrs. Jake and the 3 chase and wrestle all the time. I have one concern. When not running, playing with the 3 other dogs, or interacting with my wife and I, Jake keeps his tail tucked. He does not show any signs of being afraid, he just keeps it tucked as he wonders the house.

I assume that he is still unsure of his surroundings. I have a very good vet and she has given him a full exam and he is in good health.

Welcome! With your pup's tail...no expert, only speaking from what I notice in my girl, but you will see his tail relax more with confidence. Even still, it's my take from my own dog that if she isn't exploring or playing..her tail is often down and not in a fearful way, it's just how she carries it when she is relaxed. She eats with it down, and usually walks with it relaxed down on leash walks. Its easy for others to assume she is scared because it's been imprinted on us that a tail down is such, but I know my girl and her body language. A tight tuck is her unsure or uneasy, but a soft down tail (not tightly tucked) is just relaxed and indifferent for her.
