I love Dog Parks because Hanna LOVES to play with other dogs. She is not agressive at all and most of the time she is overly summisive when other dogs respond to her playfullness with agression.

Im  at my brothers house out of state doing more decluttering .Ive only been there 24 hrs and have been busy taking stuff  out of the house. I have had Hanna on a lease outside while I work and in a crate inside when I go to the dump. My brothers house is right next to a HUGE soccer field wher people bring thier dogs . I have seen them both ob leash and off lead. I have yet to try to bring her over to play yet.   This after noon I was placing a mailbox out the back door and She slipped out. There were two people and 2 mabe three dogs  out in the field . As soon as she saw them she was a gonner!    I yelled to  please catch my dog and grabbed a leash only to hear a whelp.

Then the two dog ownwers were speedily taking thier dogs to the car and Hanna was running back to me.   She had a gash on her leg and some punnctures.

I took her and ran to thier car yelling at  them  to stop saying your dog bit my dog.  They almost got away. the man and woman got out of the car and were resitant to giving me any information.

She said your dog was running toward them. No oppologies and then s said well maybe youtr dog bit ours  I said Okay lets take a look at them . They refused.   and refused to give me thier name or any info. I  had to get thier licence number went home and imediately called animal control which is the police . I had an officer come over to the house. The law is a dog has to be under leash or voice command so There was nothing I vcould do.   They claimed thier dogs were on a leash But I didn't see any and its two words against one. The  police  called them up to get shot info for me .called me back to say one of thier dogs had a puncture wound  somewhere near thier eye and they took a picture.

I had to take Hanna to the vet. It swelled up fast and she was limping. They shaved and cleaned it gave me anti biotics  visit plus elizabethian collar came to 150.00. That was a Banfield pet ssmart.

I don't know whats going to happen. Im planning on trying to take my dog to visit the animal control officer who owns a bording kennel so he can see My dog and how sweet  she is and talk more about the situation. The vet said if I had not gotten thier number or they got away  state law says I would have to have Hanna given booster shots and quarenteened .

This makes the second very upsetting event both with a  husband and wife couple and agressive dogs The other one I don't want to go into detail about .

For all that has happened to me Its a wonder I do go to dogs parks . I have found that Owners of agressive dogs are in denile and are great at gaslighting and making it appear that its your dogs fault thier dog had to be agressive and bite.

The dogs were german shepards or shepard mix . The other dog event was a huge female boxer .

If a dog is being agressive toard Hanna I now leave a dog park  rather than ask an owner to control thier dog.

sorry for all the typos . Im pretty upset.

I don't go anywhere near dog parks for this very reason.

Sorry you are going through all of this. If they do try and claim Hanna harmed their dog in anyway you be sure to include in your account that you attempted to swap information and to look over their dogs for anything you may need to take responsibility for (though knowing there was nothing) and that both attempts were refused.

I too am leery of dog parks. I have become a somewhat regular at ours but I know who is there what hours and what dogs to steer clear of. Bella approaches only when released and that is after I have assessed how a dog is approaching her. She is too easy go lucky and I gets targeted a lot as a result. Our park is not fenced and is more of a walking track with open areas so most dogs walk with their owners off lead. Of there are dogs that don't get along you can simply change direction, and not pass them again. I find I get more frustrated with owners than the dog's behavior.

Hope all fares ok and that her leg heels quickly

Sorry Hanna is having such trouble. That sort of incident is exactly why I haven't taken our guys to a dog park in ages. We intentionally moved out into the country so they would have access to a protected forest (right across the street from us). Hugs to her and hope she heals up soon.

Poor Hanna - but seriously do NOT go to dog parks
I took Bugsy a few times when he was young but quickly learned that there were too many idiot owners there paying no attention the their not very social dogs.
Bugsy is a very large boy and some males were aggressive towards him, fortunately he ignored them but in my mind I knew that if he did respond it wouldn't end well for the other dog and he and I would be in trouble
They are totally not worth the risk to me

It's Bugsy's world...

Poor Hanna. Prayers for a speedy recovery, and, hopefully, some satisfaction after speaking with the officer at the kennel.

Personally, I would never take my dog/dogs to a dog park. Too much can go wrong - FAST.

Sorry about Hanna.  This is why I never go to Dog Parks.  I have more than one dog, so they get plenty of play time with each other.  I really do not need to add a dog we do not know as one of their playmates and actually, I think I am their favorite playmate anyway.

With your dog off leash, not sure if you have much leverage against them, even if your dog is not the aggressor.  Only if the other dogs came into your yard (or your brother's yard as is this case), does not seem much legally you can do.

Poor Hanna.....I'm so sorry that happened. I hope she gets better soon.

Not a lecture by any means, because I know and understand how much fun it is to see Hanna have a blast with the other dogs at the dog park. But since frequenting them for several months, I have changed my mind on dog parks, though I really wish things could be different......because I REALLY LOVE taking mine to their favorite park to run and chase the butterflies and the birds, and to swim. They really don't socialize with other dogs, but yet have been targeted by other dogs.....BECAUSE, unfortunately, dogs will be dogs.

My new thoughts on dog parks.......No dog parks!! Both of my dogs have been targeted by aggressive dogs. Also, Kaido likes to chase smaller dogs, and I KNOW that would not end well, as evidenced by what happened to Jamie. Both mine have been targets by just simply running to closely to another dog. Because they run like the wind, other dogs love to chase them, and sometimes that doesn't end well. We have't gone in a very long time....probably 6 months now because I decided that, as much as they both LOVE the dog park, I didn't want to risk them getting injured. There was always a tiff, at least one, every time we went. One GSP was seriously hurt by a St. Bernard while entering the dog park. It is so easy for dogs to get out of hand! I recently went to my parent's house and my sister brought her 2 dogs (malamute and husky). I had my Aussie mix and 2 GSPs and Lab, and my parents had a Golden retriever and Springer. We had to take shifts! We tried all of them at once, and none of them could get along. Instant instability!! These were our own family dogs and none are considered aggressive! It was then that I saw that it doesn't take an aggressive dog to kill .......and when Kaido Mauled Jamie, it wasn't an act of aggression.....it was a chase game gone wrong! All these little lessons in life are why I will NEVER set foot back in a dog park......even though my dogs love it. They don't know the hazards like I do. If something ever happened to them, or another dog, I could never forgive myself! Again, not a lecture, just examples that have changed my mind. You can have a super stable dog, but get two unstable dogs with a stable dog, and it's trouble!

"He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog.
You are his life, his love, his leader.
He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart.
You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion."

I don't know how this will effect Hanna in regards  to aproaching dogs. When she was in Banfield getting fixed up she still wanted to play with every dog  in Pet Smart!

I know most of you are anti Park , I'm with  Bella's mom In at home the park is fenced in and after my first negative event I have stayed with My "Home park" where I know more of the dogs and am vigilant with signs of aggression.

This was not an official off leash dog park . It does have a sign that states all dogs must be on lead but from what I have seen most are not. They do   have an off leash park  only its not fenced , it a big  open area / park. . I definately won't be doing that! .  This was an accident where she bolted on me , still she was off lead. It all happended at a distance and at lightning speed . I could not see if the other  dogs were on leads or not I saw they were running around.

I talked with the animal control officer and found out that they only showed a picture of an eye to the  police officer. They did not bring thier dog to be seen by the officer . Unlike me I had Hanna right there for him to see.  They also embelished the story saying Hanna came running up to them baring her teeth which is a BOLD FACED LIE!  . So the animal control is not absolutely certain about  it. He also said he had delt with them befor with trouble between neighbors and the neighbors being afraid of thier dogs .

So at least its on record. I can't leave the State for 10 days   which is next Sat. I was planning on leaving Sunday so that worked out okay . But what If I had to be back this weekend? .

The animal control officer  besides owning a kennel has the same name  (male version)  as mine and he raised  german short hair pointers. So I'd like to  drop by to see his  kennel.

Sheena , my first GSP never got bit by another dog so  this is my first experience. She was in alot of pain that night . I slept on the floor with her. In the morning she was back to romping and almost opened her wound so she has been  crate bound Till Sunday to make sure its well healed.

Scary how dogs can turn in an instant on other dogs / people as well.
