I have 3.8 acres of open ground and I want to let him run anytime. So I'm looking for a under ground fence for the 3.8 acres and I want to be able to use the same system to be able to reinforce him. Also be able to use the system when hunting. And hiking

Sorry, I've never used one. They may keep the dog in, but they don't keep everything else out.

Those fences are great for keeping your pup from taking off and getting lost and for keeping them away from the road. I don't recommend leaving your dog unsupervised while outside, even with an efence, wood fence, chain link fence, etc. I never understood the arguement that efences don't keep others from coming into your area. Thats not their purpose. I use the innotek contain and train.

Thanks for the input. I agree on the nice keeping him in but wht about the neighbors dog. I want a split rail fence with box wire. But that's a lot of money. 11 dollars a post, 9 dollars a rail. That wht it is here in eastern pa

We use an underground fence for an acre - we have an Innotek system. I want to say that training your dog is a long process if done right on such a large area AND I would certainly not start a young pup on one - I would wait until nearly a year - I know a few people in our neighborhood who started earlier and had to retrain them later. The other reason is you don't yet know what your dog will get into when on its own. I am lucky my dog doesn't eat random items but lots do. And even though he's been trained on it since he was about a year - we always check on him and never leave him out there and leave the property. We live in a community but in an area with a lot of wildlife - as mentioned these fences keep nothing out. Its important to realize that your dog can be attacked within the perimeter and that other animals (aggressive, rabid or fine) can come in

we're moving into a house on 5 acres and apparently the wire is already there......the box and collars not. Hoping when we arrive to be able to find out the make of the fence and contact the company. No I wouldn't leave them unsupervised but i'd like to be able to let them run the 5 acres whilst i'm in the garden.

If the wire is in the ground. And the wire gave is the same as all other under ground fences then is Dnt matter wht kInd of collar and electric box.

Didnt work well for us because of all the deer that kept coming in the yard. We only had Windsor back then and all he wanted to do was chase the darn deer so he escaped so we had to fence the back yard in. It's pretty big but with two hyper gsps, the yard is trashed. Glad nobody can see it back there!
