Ok... I KNOW I have seen threads about pet insurance here, but I'm not getting any results using the search box.

My employer recently added pet insurance to our list of benefits. The insurance would be offered through VPI. The quote I got was for about $40/month. Does that sound about right? It's for their Major Medical Plan w/ a $14,000 maximun annual benefit and a Routine Care package with a $250 maximun annual benefit.

We have been lucky with Havoc so far, but even the little trivial things that have added up. His ear infection a few months ago ended up costing about $200, and his recent eye issue (the equivalent of puppy pink eye) was another $150. Plus shots and routine visits- I think in 10 months I've spent close to a $800 already. We've got some big plans for the summer and thought that pet insurance might be worth it, but I'm having a hard time understanding what it will and won't pay for (I'll probably call them later) and also want to see if people have used VPI and what their experiences have been.

I'm currently looking at insurance. Yes 40 a month seems to be the going rate but a little more digging and I have found better.

Kerry, also try http://pcinsurance.ca/. They also offer Pet Insurance (but I'm not sure how coverage/cost compares).

thank you. seen them too. I've got quotes and details from about 12 different ones now. Those 2 seem about the best.

I use petplan and think they are good - my premiums have gone up significantly each year though.
It is less than $40/mo - I chose $8k/yr with a $200 deductible
I would think a GSP would be less than a giant mixed breed

We have Pet Plan too.....just used it for the first time this weekend so we will see how it goes...faxed in the paperwork today. $200 deductible and Windsor is $37 a month and Velvet is $40 a month. I know many vets take VPI Just google "pet insurance reviews" Nice that your employer offers it!

Here you go Kerry: http://canada.gopetplan.com/ However, apparently, they aren't available in Ontario yet.

Wyatt was hit by a car 2 weeks ago, the specialist bill was 800+ and today when I called they said I will be recieving 650+! I would say that pretty good coverage!
Thank God he survived!

So glad Wyatt is gonna be ok! Seems like Pet Plan is on the ball - I forgot to send a release for for Velvet's prior records and they emailed me right away about that. So downloaded the form, faxed it to the vet and the animal hospital and hopefully they sent it to Pet Plan. I can check the status online but it just happened today so I'll give it a day or two.
