Hopefully I can get Velvet into the vet tomorrow - setting my alarm early as they are only open from 8 - 12.  Last week she peed on the bed - hadn't done it since until again last night but this time she was sleeping and when she jumped off the bed, the wet spot was there.  I cleaned it all up again, santized everything and gated the bedroom.  She doesn't do accidents during the day at all.  I let her out at 7:30 tonight, let her back in and w/in 30 minutes she peed in the den.  She was in heat this time last year - we got her fixed.  Only did this at night time?  What could it be?  A UTI?  I thought she'd pee all day with that?  Or could she be in heat again, even though she is fixed?  So I get to see how Pet Plan insurance works tomorrow, providing I can get an appointment.  I took the water away and she will be crated tonight.  Hope it's nothing serious.

UTI does sound like a possibility. A urine analysis should answer that question. Only other thing I'm thinking is incontinence. My Lucy just turned 3 but about a year ago I was having problems with her wetting her bed or a spot on the carpet. Actually, saw the urine leaking out of her as she went to the door. Dr. didn't think it was incontinence at her young age, but when it continued with no UTI, she put her on Proin and she has been just fine ever since. Sure hope you get an answer today. Will be waiting to hear.

Maybrie had a UTI after having her spayed. She too was completely potty trained at 4 months of age, but started peeing all over the house, and peeing frequently...like every 20-30 minutes. Also, when she went outside, she would walk forward while going like she was trying to get away from the pain. Cleared up without 4 or 5 days on Clavamox. Hoping for the best. Maybe just an early UTI. Keep us posted.

Called my vet who was open but no doctors were there - so like why be open? So I called my pet insurance company, Go Pet Plan, and they said it was ok to take her to the emergency clinic as they are listed as our secondary vet. They were great - got right in with her and they took their time with her - blood sample, stool sample, urine sample, and they did find some type of infection and we will have more conclusive results tomorrow - they are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. $640 later but we have insurance. We hopefully will only have to pay a $200 deductible. Our vet said she'd be fine by Monday but I didn't want to take any chances - I could have jumped the gun with this but she's our family - if I were sick, I wouldn't want to wait. We got Clavamox too - she had her two pills today so far - she'll be on it for 10 days. I hope it's not incontinence but I think it could be as the last two accidents she had she slept through it. Maybe we'll need the Proin who knows, but insurance covers that as well :) Weird she is fine all day - happens at night. We had to go out for a while today so we kenneled her. MIL let her out after a little while so she stayed over there with her and no accidents. Just gotta keep an eye on her:) We'll keep you posted! Geez, these dogs have better health insurance than me and Lou! Ours sucks!

Nancy, is Lucy on Proin for the rest of her life? How is it taken - daily? Vet said incontinence can sometimes happen after a spay and it could be hormone related.

Yes, she will be on Proin the rest of her life. Your
vet was right about it being hormone related. They also call it spay incontinence. I had a female dobe that I adopted at 6yrs of age. She was spay incontinent. In talking with the previous owner, she found her as a stray and had her spayed. She was about a year old at the time. About a year later, she became incontinent, which would have made her a little over two. She was just over 12 when she crossed the Bridge.

I had to take Lucy back for blood work at 6 wks. after being on the Proin, but all is well. It will be checked every year when she goes for her HW exam.

I'm sure Velvet will do just fine. Keep us utd.

Nancy

yes my boxer had incontinence (i think it is common after spays)... she was on the proin for the rest of her life... we started out low dosage and it helped but by the end when she was 13 it was upped as high as it could be and it wasn't working anymore... it is so sad for them cuz they have no idea it just happens when they are laying down and when they get up big wet spot...

Positive thoughts. Forgot to mention that Lucy is on Proin 50. 1/2 am and 1/2 pm.
Working good so far.
