The ones I don't think develop properly are the ones that have repeated encounters with birds in their first year and yet show no interest in them. The problem with trying to understand this late development is that there are few examples. In most gun dog circles a dog that shows little interest in game during the first six months is given away as a pet and there's no development thereafter. What we usually see is dogs that develop sharpness before 6 months, if they don't we don't see them again. This is a situation in which experimental techniques are useful when observational data show us nothing beyond a certain point. Cj
