Yesterday evening we went to a shooting estate to get a load of partridge chickens to take home. Maud and Briz, and earlier Foxy,  use to go there to commercial shooting days to find birds for paying hunters. Obviously Briz and Foxy had made a good job, we got the chickens for nothing!

So now we have 50 chickens for the ES puppy/puppies we perhaps, maybe, possibly get, don't know yet. The litter is not even born yet I believe, the pregnant bitch lives some 600kms from us.

Sonia suggested Swanway springers for me and I have indeed been following the kennel for a number of years. It is situated in Wales, I believe. However I am reluctant to buy a dog by the phone so I would have to make a visit first. This is an interesting choice actually. If - IF -  we actually get two ES puppies, then I could have a rather relaxed relation to mine. We do not have the prerequisite needed to train a pointing birddog to a top field trial standard and hence I would not bother to put any stress on my puppy or myself.

However, if I for some strange reason could find a decent spaniel, a puppy or a young dog before the ES puppies are ready for delivery (that means: if I could lay my hands on a decent spaniel I would reject the ES that I even do not know if I can get it), I would have the prerequisite to train a spaniel to a rather high standard and the field trial circus would most likely start again. The next 8 weeks will decide what happens.

BTW, have any of you heard of a tracking-deer? Sunday night Maud was out with her rifle to see if she could shoot a red fox. She sat in a shooting tower and saw when an old roe-buck started to track her from where she had entered the field. It tracked her all the way to the tower where she was sitting and her camera ran hot! It was two weeks too early, otherwise her rifle would have been hot instead. I guess she will put some of the pictures on our website one of these days. There was also a younger buck on the field. They are in rut now and perhaps there was some kind of territorial fight going on.

Next day I was out with Briz and then she too tracked Mauds track to the tower. I do not believe Briz cared about the deer scent. So suddenly there are trackers everywhere!

For example I have just found the track to some work that has to be done to our house. If I could lift my ass from this chair I am sitting on I could follow the track and see what I can possibly find on the end of it. I think I will give it a try, at least :-)))
