Re: [working-gundog] Happy New Year
We have had sub-zero temps. and no snow for at least a week. Now we have decent ground frost and all the water that fell so plentiful earlier has frozen to ice. I have not seen a trace of the roe-deer but Maud has had a couple of shots at red fox. We have also shot some clay and still have a pen ful of partridge that we forgot to use when they should have been used, most likely due to the endless raining. Of course they can be put out in the spring but then hungry hawks and such use to finish them of pretty fast.

I have no new year resolutions at all. What you have to do you have to do anyway, and the rest can be solved by a day to day basis. I am still thinking about a really good video-camera, in order to produce something downloadable about dogs for our website. However a new pick-up car is the first priority so we will see what happens and when... or even "if".

Briz is in good shape. She played a versatile dog some days ago when Maud wounded a red-fox, most likely a shot very low in the chest with the 243W. Briz followed the frozen blood trail in the darknes over an open field and then into heavy cover with bushes, trees, rocks and stones in really rough terrain. In the dense cover she finally lost the track as foxes always go underground in such situationes. Judging from the amount and colour of the blood at the place of shot and then on the first 100 - 150 meters of the trail on the open field I believe the fox had died underground in less than 30 minutes. This was Briz first real bloodtrack and despite of lacking experience from real tracks (only training) she worked wonderfully well. It was a pity she could not get a real reward at the end of the track. Briz hate foxes as much as her mother Foxy did, still she tracked very controlled. We are pleased with that!

Happy new year to all of you!
