>>>>You should purchase a book called Merles Door by Ted Kerasote, Torsti.  It is story of a man and his relationship with a dog he found and includes lots of interesting sections on what Cj is talking about and what you have brought up too. He is an "outdoors" writer and hunter.
I bought it via Albiris Books off the internet as a used book quite cheap price but came in good condition.  Freight cost more than the book. Margaret>>>>

I just found and bought it from www.amazon.com   There was a preview page to read and it felt similar to John Steinbeck, actually. Price with shipping is 20 Euro for a new copy, from US$ 5.87 for a used book.

We have a lot of rock carvings here in Sweden and many, if not most of them contains hunting scenes with spitz-like dogs that could be the ancestors to the Norwegian Gray Elkhound. I remember they found the oldest ever Swedish rock carving of a hunting dog only a couple of years ago, somewhere in northern Sweden, and I am trying localise it to take a photo of it later. I do not remember precisely but it could be 4000 - 5000 years old.

Today will be a slaughter day. We buy a lamb or two every autumn, on root so to say, to get the price down. It is otherwise OK but their coat is so damn thick so they are difficult to skin. They should be clipped first....
