Hi, I have an 11 year old DD and a 4 1/2 month DD pup both females. The pup vocalizes very readily if I pull burrs or grab her muzzle for biting. If the old dog is around when the pup yips she runs over to the pup and gets very close. Not aggressive, or protective. I just shoo her away and that's the end of it. I was just wondering why the old dog might be doing this. Any ideas? I'm sure this is difficult to do without seeing the behavior but I'm curious and would appreciate some hypotheses. Jim

Yes. One of the Beauties of English as an approximation to a language of
communication is that words and phases can mean several things. this makes
talking
past one another so much easier and we don't have to resort to lying ("The truth
is
soooo limiting!")

In this context "over the hill" means 'out of sight.'

My older dogs always check on a pup if it seems hurt.  They act concerned.
