The first thing is getting a new pup, you've no doubt taken care of that, or Maud has done it for you. If you're not certain if the retirement is permanent you might want to reconsider buying a new shotgun to go with the new pup. Any event is usually reason enough to buy another shotgun. If anyone complains about you having too many shotguns you can point out that golfers always have a collection of golf clubs to play with, why should shotguns be any different? Cj

You are quite right! A new puppy could be a good reason to get a new shotgun also but I have alternative ways to the ultimate salvation. When shooting clay I shoot a little better with Maud's heavy 12 gauge clay gun, a Browning Ultra XS. I even shoot better with her steel framed 20gauge Miroku game gun than with my very light, aluminium framed 20gauge Browning game gun, that otherwise is so similar to my game gun so parts can be exchanged between them. So I have for a long time been thinking about getting a special gun for clay competition only
))
The harddrive where the operating system is installed on our big work computer broke today. When I removed it to buy a new one tomorrow I had to smile a little. It is a Hitachi and when you pronounce that brand name in Swedish it sounds like a cough caused by a flu ....and that's precisely what I have
)) Now I write using an older one that we have standby for cases like this. Re-installing everything on the new computer will take days but it will keep me suitably busy while recovering from the flu.
Maud just phoned from the mountains and said Briz had done well in today's trial. A very pleasing search, the best game finding ability of all dogs in the trial and the most bold and brisk advance to flush the bird of all, despite of being the oldest dog in the trial, with her 8 years of age. However the gun missed Briz best bird so she and Maud will stay to see if there is place for Briz tomorrow when the finals are run.
Whatever we made out of Briz - we did not make her sticky on point
)
Talking about puppies I have started to smell the smoke from the Swedish working spaniel club. I do not know what is going on and I am not sure that I want to know but already years ago I felt "owls in the moss" (a Swedish saying about suspicious things) when I saw the declining quality of the dogs. We will see......if I cant get a spaniel puppy from the UK I can always get an ES or a Wachtelhund from Sweden.
