I was just thinking about a friend who has had dogs from the same breeding line as our late Foxy, one of them Foxy's daughter Aqui. He was used to these difficult to train hardheads and is now very amazed by 3 ES from new line he has "collected" in to his house. They are much softer, much easier to train and holds the point better from the start of their career. However they do not range very wide and they do not have the stamina to search as his former dogs. I have tried to find the answer to my question for many years. Now Maud has decided to take a puppy from these softer lines so perhaps we will get the final answer within a few years. Personally I like the hardheads more since they are kind of fun with their independent style and they do not lick your a.. unless you deserve to be licked first :- )) Maud reported today from her grouse exploring trip, after having met a Norwegian grouse researcher also, that grouse are down this year both in Sweden and Norway. Ärende: Re: Ang: Re: [working-gundog] fading of innate behaviors I don't have the experience base on which to base such a judgement - sorry. There are so many variables to be taken into account in attempting to answer your question a great many dogs would need to be assessed to even get into a ballpark on it, I think.
