Well, not really yet but nearly. The summer heat is gone and it has rained a lot and the grass has turned green again. The temperature has dropped to more comfortable levels and the air smells in a different way, more like decomposing vegetation, as it does later in the autumn. Again it feels great to be outdoors! (I actually dislike summers a great deal
)) )
Last Tuesday Maud and Briz went north to hunt grouse in a grouse research team, like last autumn. Their job is to find and produce the grouse to a gun that shoots them and then a researcher does the rest with the birds. The researcher of course also makes notes during the search for the birds. As the official grouse season starts on Monday they will stay in the mountains and continue to hunt for real a couple of days. Next Thursday there is a field (mountain-) trial somewhere and Briz will start there. Maud is supposed to drive home aug.31. From yesterdays report they have had a lot of rain, heavy rain, but even found some birds. They expected better weather today and the rest of the research days.
I have to go to work today and will come back sept. 1 for a few days rest. Then I will work a long week and then I am free for the rest of the autumn if I like. Maybe for the rest of my life since I seriously consider retiring. I have not decided yet.
Last weekend I have been out looking for roe-deer bucks a couple of times but there are still too many of those vacation folks from Stockholm around. Well, next time the schools have started and that will keep them where they belong - on the city streets!
Now I will go and fill the feeders for our party of partridge and then our neighbour will take care of them until Maud comes home. They are good, strong birds for Briz to play with later in the autumn.
Shoot a lot and shoot straight!
