This is a long time
lapse video of our fire in Colorado
Springs – the guy that did this lives about a mile
north and up the hill from me, but is about the same view as I have had through
this disaster. It is an amazing “video” – and even today I’m watching
huge plumes of smoke as the pre-burns above the Peregrine housing district
occur to try and keep that district safe from suffering the same as my old
neighborhood in Mountain Shadows did (my old home burned on Tuesday night in
that video) – we just had one of the C-130s fly about 1,000 feet directly above
our house just now on the way north - -perhaps to the Boulder or Fort Collins
fires, or perhaps to turn back and do a drop on Waldo Canyon. If you want
to see what I’ve been seeing – watch this video. My office is going to
remain closed for all of next week as they try to ensure air quality and the
building itself is OK - -the flames came up to 500 feet of the building (which
is in Mountain Shadows) but it (so far) has survived.
I thought I’d share
this with the group since many of you have asked.

Hi Dave, The video was good - very creepy though. My husband and I both work for the Forest Service. He will be leaving tomorrow for the fires as a safety officer. I hope it is not Waldo Canyon...We have fires here in the east too, including the Dad fire in North Carolina which is huge. My heart goes out to those folks in the path of these devastating wild land fires. Thanks for sharing the video.

Thank you so much for having your family
risk their lives fighting these -- believe me we all consider our fire fighters
the heroes here -- as I noted in a face book posting -- when all of us are
fleeing the inferno the guys headed in the other direction towards Armageddon
to save lives and save whatever can be saved are the true heroes -- bless them
all.

Thank you for the post. Having watched the fires coming up the Canyons when I lived in CA, and losing my house to one in 2003 it was haunting. Bless all the fire Fighters!!! Concur with you about the haunting experience of watching the CO fires…though we didn't lose a house a you did I remember the helpless feeling while watching smoke rising from canyons approximately a mile from our house in Highland CA and watching the big planes going in and releasing the fire retardant…
It was also sobering to see the AF Academy Chapel in the foreground of the video and remembered our 12 year old grandson had just attended a baseball camp there.
Now we are bracing ourselves for the 4th of July fireworks here. Even though we are experiencing a tremendous drought and some fireworks have been banned some individuals will be shooting them off anyway…
The fire fighters are truly a selfless group of folks to go into harms way to help others and save lives.
Our thoughts and prayers for them and their families.

| Home yesterday around 7 and went to dinner. Getting ready to take Lynne to the airport. She got breed all 3 days and a Group 2 on Friday at the first Sporting Dog Assoc show. Nothing in the group on Sat and a Group 3 yesterday. Very tough competition. Lots of walking, drinking, eating.....
