My husband and I use cattle mats that we cut down to the size of the crate/pen.  They are made for the bottom of a horse or cattle stall, constructed of a very durable black rubber similar to the material that the old fashioned "Kongs" are made out of.  You can get them, in our area, at Tractor Supply.  The most challenging part of the whole process is cutting the material.  My husband had to use a heavy duty utility knife and a lot of elbow grease.  In twenty years, not a single dog has made a single dent in one of them no matter how hard they chew!

Good Luck

I used the unprinted newsprint even in the whelping box. If you  have a local newspaper, they will sometimes let you have the end of the roles for free. That’s how I got mine. Worth a try.

I use unprinted newsprint for the "shredders".  They love it. They rip and tear and arrange it to  their liking.  And as long as the not-so-bad shredders have that on top of a crate pad, they leave the crate pad alone.  Nobody has really ever eaten the unprinted newsprint.

I have 2 dogs that rip up every piece of begging I've ever used. I've spent a fortune on rugs and crate pads. They never consume the shredded bedding, but its very expensive to constantly replace it. I have tried spraying Bitter Apple and Arid Xtra Dry on the bedding to no avail. Does anyone have any other ideas I can try ?

Thanks.
Ann
