Good suggestion, as it can be cleaned...repeatedly, won't be effected by urine, or emisis (up chucking)! Wish I would have thought of the stall mats earlier as I made some homade Karunda type beds, but Dee was right in having a concern about them, because the cover material left a gap at the corner of the bed. If I had used stall mat material, I could have cut it square to fit, and no gap for the dogs to put their legs through. If anyone is interested, I can show you how to make this type of bed from schedule 40 heavy wall pipe, that WILL stand up to years of being chewed on for much less money. With the stall mats, very good idea, indeed!Terry BrumbaughEndo Surgical Source, Inc717-503-7012Tbrumbaugh@endosurgicalsource.com-----Original message-----From: killari@netrover.comTo: gsp-l@shorthairs.netSent: Tue, Nov 22, 2011 14:57:00 GMT+00:00Subject: Re: [gsp-l] dog bedding help kurunda bedOne other thought is the rubber matting they have for horse stalls. They do come in smaller pieces and I have some in my crates for the old guys mainly for footing. If they end up sleeping directly on the matting there have not been callous issues and since it is also 1/2 to 5/8 inches thick it is fairly chew proof and shift proofJenniffer HowlingFrom: Ann Wallace Sender: gsp-l-request@shorthairs.netDate: Tue, 22 Nov 2011 09:33:58 -0500 (EST)To: ReplyTo: gsp-l@shorthairs.net Subject: Re: [gsp-l] dog bedding help kurunda bedNo bedding has resulted in calluses :-( -----Original Message----- From: Judy S To: gsp-l Sent: Tues , Nov 22, 2011 8:46 am Subject: Re: [gsp-l] dog bedding help kurunda bed no bedding.. one of my GSPs had to do that for a bit....... So, I learned from a friend to just leave the legs off and the bed sits just a little off the ground. Kind of weird though. Then I bought the aluminum ones which are terribly expensive, but they last a lifetime so worth it! Kuranda also makes crate beds which I believe are the same as a regular dog bed, but with shorter legs. It is bothersome that they are so expensive though - I've not tried a cheaper version. None of the dogs, including the borders, have ever chewed the actual bed part. I guess only metal is indestructible!
