Hard to say. Timing is everything. Like Julie, I do not hold out for show homes. Pet homes with a great environment are priority. I breed (very infrequently) for a show pup for myself and the rest I just want in happy homes. Living in Florida I always get emails looking for a gsp. Some I would not want as a puppy buyer, but many I would consider a possible home with my very limited screening since I do not have any pups available. I try to help good prospects by emailing them info. on pups when available. Most will not travel very far to get a pup, and almost all of them will not buy sight unseen. They want to pick out their family pet. I truly believe having your own website is a tremendous help in selling pups. I get a lot of traffic on mine, hence the emails. I could have sold at least one litter this year !!

While I strive to breed for correct conformation (and I've only bred/co-bred four litters) my sales have been primarily for hunting companions. This is fine as my dogs have proven themselves as good hunting specimens. I am wondering...what sells the "show dog" or are people breeding their own show dogs?
This past weekend I saw a gorgeous litter of now 5 month old puppies in need of ANY form of a good home. They have a "to die for" pedigree, all health clearances on the parents, and have all their vet checks/vaccinations good for a year. The sire and dam are reknown show dogs themselves. Unfortunately, the breeder cannot place these dogs and is trying her hardest to keep them properly socialized and trained. There are several breeders on here who are trying to help but there have been no takers. She's asking a fair price for the quality and probably below what many breedings get.
What gives? Is the market just really that bad right now? Is the market for hunting dogs bigger? Can someone suggest any other avenues to go to help move these puppies out? Any input would be appreciated and can be posted here.
I posted for a friend.
Thanks,
Tracy N.
