You can buy big cans of Jolly Green Giant beans at Costco really cheaply.  As for pumpkin, be careful.  It is a binder, and also loaded with Vitamin A which it is possible to overdose on since it is not a water soluble vitamin.

The green beans are an excellent idea -- thank you, Carol! I've also
heard that pumpkin is a good "filler." Do you mash up the green
beans a bit so that they digest easier?

You can find canned Green Beans with "NO SALT" at most stores. Look
for the stores own brand and they sometimes cost less.

carol cronk is right - that is what the vet told my friend myrna

Reduce your dog's food intake to about half of what it was before.

.

Add canned green beans to the dog food as a filler. They are
nutritious, but have almost no calories and will help stave off your
dog from hunger.

.

Give your dog smaller food portions twice a day, rather than a single
larger portion

We've been feeding the Merrick's brands for quite a while, now:
Cowboy Cookout and Grammy's Pot Pie ... they got good reviews on an
intensive dog-food nutrition site, and the dogs love them (though I
think I need to scout around for a decent "diet" food, as Marc has put
on weight since his bout with Lyme disease earlier this year... which
begs the question, what do you all feed when you want to take some
weight off?)
