I think we are still somewhat mixing apples and oranges here. This LD test is more or less in it's infancy. The science is fairly new. The test is fairly new. OFA is simply a database for these types of tests. OFA does not have anything to do with developing the test or determining it's validity. That is up to the researchers at U Penn & the scientific community. Clear by Parentage is just a formality offered by OFA once a DNA genetic test has been proven over time and generations to hold true from generation to generation. Let's give U Penn the time to prove their test out & definitely indicate it has isolated the mutated gene & publish their results. Then I'm sure OFA will offer the cleared by parentage status. Science takes time.

Tracy, I remember the email as well cause I was ready to send in my Dam’s collection and when I read you still had to test the offspring, I decided not to send it in and wait to test those I want to breed. I totally remember this being stated.

Don't you remember the post sent in reply to my clear-by-parentage results where I was told it was NOT possible? I then posted exactly what was on my test results and was inquiring as to WHY NOT myself? You even chimed in at some point and everyone else who did confirmed to just test ALL dogs to be safe.
I will find it and re-send it out! It takes acting like an idiot to get answers.

Tracy,

I don’t understand how you come to the conclusion that cleared by parentage is not possible in a situation in which the test is for the specific mutation? If neither sire or dam carry the mutated gene, it is simply not possible for the offspring to be affected or to be carriers.

This is very good news. I wish it had come out when I was told on this list that my clear-by-parentage was not possible. I began testing clear offspring and throwing away money.

I should have stirred the pot sooner because my plea for clarification fell on deaf ears.

I know we all lead busy lives but this is a critical subject for breeders and proper communication is vital!

Will OFA be notified so they post the correct results?

Thank you (but I'm still a little po'd about this being ignored earlier),
