I think we are still somewhat mixing apples and oranges here. This LD test is more or less in it's infancy. The science is fairly new. The test is fairly new. OFA is simply a database for these types of tests. OFA does not have anything to do with developing the test or determining it's validity. That is up to the researchers at U Penn & the scientific community. Clear by Parentage is just a formality offered by OFA once a DNA genetic test has been proven over time and generations to hold true from generation to generation. Let's give U Penn the time to prove their test out & definitely indicate it has isolated the mutated gene & publish their results. Then I'm sure OFA will offer the cleared by parentage status. I wish it had come out when I was told on this list that my clear-by-parentage was not possible. I began testing clear offspring and throwing away money. I should have stirred the pot sooner because my plea for clarification fell on deaf ears. I know we all lead busy lives but this is a critical subject for breeders and proper communication is vital!
