Thought other shorthair lovers would appreciate this true story that I experienced last night........ "Indy" is our 8 year old spayed girl who adores puppies. Each and every litter here at Crystal kennels gets her blessing along with washing and cleaning of each individual baby. We call it 'babysitting' here. Indy even developed milk and helped raise a litter sharing the responsibilities with Jordan (another of our girls). Indy loves food more than anything else in the world. She loves to eat. Last night as a treat I gave each of the dogs a large (about 4 inch) piece of chicken breast. This is a real treat for them. Indy very purposely picked hers up and trotted into the 3rd bedroom where the 3.5 week old pups are. She climbed into the pool and very gently laid the chicken in the middle of the sleeping pups. The other dogs came trotting in to see where that chicken was going........ Indy stared them down and low growled at everyone making it clear that this was the babies. I watched for 20 minutes with tears in my eyes....these are NOT her pups and she was so unselfish to give up her special treat so that she could 'feed' the babies. This humbled me to no end. What great friends we have in our dogs! "Yanna" is a VERY special girl indeed...This brought a smile to me this morning. That said, it didn't surprise me to read it after seeing a picture of her in the pool feeding a litter of Jordan babies! She IS a good girlfriend sharing her chicken!!!!
