Actually, it has been in effect since 2005. In 2010, they changed the rules to allow dogs with Q registrations to compete in AKC field trials. Up until then, they were only allowed to compete in “companion” events. The funny thing is that when I found out about it, no one I talked to knew anything about it. I found out because when I imported AKC title information, my pedigree program bounced the “q” registered dogs because I had them already in my program with SR #’s. Even the guy who wrote my pedigree program was not aware what q registration was. Many people think this is just our breed, but it is not. Conditional registration applies to all breeds. My personal feeling is that this is corrupting our stud book and should not be allowed. I wrote a letter to the board a while ago about this, and am very glad they everyone is now being made aware. Cathy,
I drafted a proposed letter for members to send to the AKC in opposition of the Q registration. It was approved in July 2010 and noted in the minutes of January 2010. The January 2010 reference is vague and is clearer when the official notice came out in July. I have sent the proposed letter to Cynthia and she is submitting it for consideration/modification at the June board meeting.

Ran into Dennis Sprung (AKC President) today and asked him about Q
Registrations, which were discussed at the GAPCA Annual Meeting in WI. He had no
clue what I was talking about and put me on the phone with a guy from AKC
named Dave. He let me know that this has been in effect since 2005. He
said that out AKC delegate was well aware of it as he was an AKC board member
when it was implemented. I don't know why the GSPCA never was made aware
of it, or if we just missed it in meeting minutes. The first I heard of it
was at the meeting two weeks ago. In any case, Dave said that
crossbreeding is not considered to be an issue as the dog needs to appear to be
purebred. I agreed that might not be an issue in some breeds, but that a GSP and
a Pointer can be crossbred and still look like a poorer representative of
the GSP breed if it's tail is docked. He had no answer for that.
I asked if the GSPCA sent an official letter to the AKC protesti_ng this
policy and asking that it be disallowed for our breed would it make a
difference. He said that letter would need to be sent to the AKC Board of
Directors. So hopefully the board can get that agreed to and in the works for the
June board meeting.
If you are appalled by the idea that crossbred GSPs or GSPs with "unknown
parentage" can get full registrations after three generations, please
contact your GSPCA director and let them know you would support a letter being
sent to the AKC board of directors asking that "Q" registrations not be
available to GSPs!

Why are the same messages being sent over and over again? This is the fourth time I have received some of the messages, including this one which I received a few minutes ago. Am I the only one having this problem?
