What a wonderful idea !!
It doesn't matter who you are or if you know him personally. I think he would be overwhelmed to know that so many people cared enought to think of him.
If you have the time and can spare a photo in a card.....it would likely be appreciated far more than you could ever imagine.
Thanks for a great idea, CJ.

Pam, how wonderful to share this with all of us.  What say each of us rounds of a photo to send along with a little note, maybe just a comment or two about the silly things our dogs love to do with ‘their people’…

Subject: [gsp-l] visit with Paul Fairfield

Hi,
On my way home to VT from the NSS I stopped in NC to visit with Paul Fairfield (Wentworth GSPs).  We should all be in such great shape at the age of 94!  He is living at the Memory Center in Twin Lakes retirement community.  I didn't ask, but I think he and Eleanor moved from their retirement home into the center because she needed it before she died last year.  Paul stayed on there afterward.  He uses a walker with a seat, but otherwise seems fine.  I took Joni in with me, and when he saw us he was very excited to see a shorthair, and told all his friends that was the kind of dogs he raised.  He was part of a group that had just come out of morning chapel, and they then all sat in a circle (me included) to do limbering exercises.  Before they started, they asked me to do a little "show" demo, and then she was allowed to visit with all the residents in the circle.  She did very well, considering she isn't trained as a therapy dog.  Paul and I then spent about an hour chatting about the "old days" and who was still around, and all the time he just kept stroking and petting Joni.  It was sad to see how much he missed not having a GSP around anymore.
After the group broke up, we went to his room, which is very nice, as is the whole facility which is only 2 years old.  On the wall he has pictures of his deceased son, his other son & daughter-in-law, and the middle picture is of "Pearl Girl", who I believe was a daughter of Ben (Wentworth's Benchmark).  If my memory is right Ben was a DC, and solid liver at that. Getting a bench championship on a solid (no patches or ticking on feet or chest) was not easy in the 70's.
He was sad to see us leave, and said I had "made his day -- no, week, -- no month!"  If anyone is interested in sending him a card or letter, or even visiting if you are in the area, the address is Paul Fairfield, c/o Memory Center, 3801 Wade Coble Drive, Burlington, NC  27215
