Isn't the Gettysburg site the same one that is trying to get a casino license? If they do the All Sports complex may not exist by 2013.

Very good points to consider Brenda, especially if weather is decent in Gettysburg. After considering the weather and show venue, getting there and back is extremely important. Wish the delegates and clubs had more information before voting.

While we are on the subject....2013. I can only speak on the sites in Virginia Beach, Richmond and Gettysburg. One of the considerations is always can a majority of the folks from around the country fly in direct. That is one of the problems we encountered this year. From our end of the country no direct flights into Gainesville or Jacksonville. Virginia Beach is a 3 hour drive from Dullas Airport in No VA. There will be very few direct flights into Richmond, which is still another 1 1/2 hours from Virginia Beach. No directs into Virginia Beach or nearby Newport. Serious traffic considerations down to Virginia Beach and out of around weekends. (Every Tom, Dick and Harry going to and from the Beach). Take the time to look at the map...pull up flights...you will understand.
Gettysburg is more accessible. 1 hour from Dullas...which means direct flights from every major city in the midwest and west. About 1 1/2 hours from Baltimore, 3 from Phili. Gettysburg has tons of historic value for things to do and tons of very good places to eat. The Weim folks love it there. Sorry I can't speak on the other sites. I would also expect fairly pleasant temps there in May. No I am not a member of the Chamber of Commerce....but it really would be a great place for a National.... Yes, there will be some SUV/van rentals involved...but we are doing that for Gainesville and I think quite a few folks are doing so. But you will want a car available to you...so much to see there.
Just some input...as I know the Clubs are deciding right now on what to tell their Delegates to vote...with limited information available. Can anyone out there speak on some of the other sites?

Rather incur a penalty than jeopardize the dogs well being. I am sure the club can afford it. The dogs should be the primary importance when discussing NSS sites. They are performing for us. Let us have an environment that will allow them to do just that.

By all mean write to the Board of Directors. Leita is one of those Directors and has been involved with all of the discussion. She should also be aware that a contract has been signed with the facility in Phoenix. Any change would incur a penalty for the GSPCA.

I would suggest that you write your concerns to the full Board of Directors and ask that the site be reconsidered. The worst that can happeen is an answer of NO.

As you may or may not know when Cynthia McCracken made the comment about the Marriott/ LA County Fairground site as being in the Mexican Ghetto with high crime rates (which is flat out not true). I spoke up and said I go to dog shows there several times a year. The show site is surrounded by multi-million dollar homes and is very nice and safe.
Many of us in that delegate meeting including myself thought the show in Phoenix was in those large air conditioned tents. When at the BOD meeting I actually saw the pictures of a free standing tent (no sides) with ceiling fans (to blow the hot air down) I had a hissy fit. I contacted all the show people in the SW and everyone except a few said the same thing, "are they crazy"? The BOD sent it back to the show committee and then it was sent back to the BOD for final approval (which I voted against).
This is my personal opinion only Phoenix at this time of year outside is a hazard for dogs and humans alike. I will not subject my dogs or myself to being outside all day for days on end in that heat even though I can drive to the show!
Good for you Leita!! I hope they change it because I was so looking forward to going since it is on my side that year, but dont think I can stand the heat. When we were there in 2006 it was HORRIBLY hot!
What can we do to get it changed? May in Northern CA is pretty nice. What about having it down in San Diego? I would like to go back it was perfect weather in March. I know my dogs dont do well in heat, they lay down and dont want to move.
My boy Jaz would pull me to the shade when he was hot! LOL
