Michelle is organizing the toys for GSPs effort. These dogs were
confiscated for neglect, the prior owner has been indicted on 173 counts, and
the dogs are in care in South Dakota at Second Chance Rescue. They are currently
evidence, so cannot yet be placed. If you want to send a packet of toys, or
contribute, the information is below. Please do not call. They are way to busy
taking care of 173, mostly GSPs to chat. Thank you for what you are always
willing to do. If you have questions, the video clip links are below. Nancy

Hi
folks! I have corresponded with Rosey Quinn, the director of Second Chance
rescue in Sioux Falls. She was instrumental in the removal of the dogs from
the SD kennel, and, her group has been providing all of the dog care since day
one. They seem to be "ok" with regard to food, etc., but she says the pups and
adults need TOYS! They spend a lot of time crated and kenneled, although all
are socialized and exercised by volunteers daily. Toys will help fill in the
gaps from exercise time, and will keep them busy when they are
kenneled.
She suggested chew toys, stuffed toys, balls, etc. I also
think Kong toys and Nylabones are a great idea. She mentioned rawhide bones
and chews, but I'm not personally a big fan of rawhide unless the dog is
supervised, so I think the Nylabones are a great alternative.
If you'd
like to help, there are two ways to do this. You can send toys yourself if
you'd like. The address is below. If you have a dog-based business, or access
to wholesale pricing, great! For those of you who plan to go to your local pet
store, pay retail prices for toys, and then pay to ship them to SD, we can all
pull together to get better pricing. I can order wholesale from a supplier,
and we can get way more bang for the buck. I plan to place an order this
coming Friday.
If you want to make a donation toward the order, I'll
gauge my order based on the amounts that will be donated. You can e-mail me
with the dollar amount you'd like to donate. (msalyers@gsprescuene.org)
I'll keep a running tally until Friday, and will then place the order based on
the amount to be donated. If you write to me, I'll reply back with my mailing
address for checks. I will TRUST YOU to send the check. If you do not,
obviously, the amount you pledged will come out of my pocket. So, this could
get expensive for me if folks don't follow-through...I'm trusting you in
good faith to send the amount you pledge.
I will keep a list of
those who wish to donate funds, and will let you know how much I ordered of
what items, etc.
Please keep in mind we want to be able to send enough
toys for over 200 dogs. However, with wholesale pricing, the average price for
a toy (stuffed toy, Nylabone, kong, ball, etc.) will be approximately $2.50
(give or take, depending on the exact toy). So, technically, you could pledge
just $10 and provide toys for up to 4 dogs. So, the donations can be small and
still be a HUGE help.
If you'd like to put together a box of your own
to send to the dogs, the shipping address is below. Please be sure to enclose
a card that you are donating at the request of GSP Rescue. We want to make
sure they know we care, and that us "GSP Folks" take care of our own.

(PHONE NUMBER BELOW IS FOR
SHIPPING PURPOSES ONLY....DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT CALL...they are way too
busy caring for the animals to field phone calls....thanks for your
understanding If you cross-post this request to others, please REMOVE the
phone number, and put your own phone number on the shipping information. We do
not want the number circulated to those outside of the GSP
Community)
