Please read below. Michelle, who is the GSPCA rescue volunteer coordinator
is shouldering this one, but I will be in the loop. I realize these are hard
times for everyone. Who does not realize that, but it also means we will need
more help than ever to support needy dogs. Once these dogs are chipped,
vaccinated, tested for health issues and temperament, they will begin to move
out to the larger community for foster care.
If you can take and train even one dog, it will be a great help indeed. If
you cannot do this, but can take an hour or two leg or a transport, let us know.
If you cannot do these two things, and wish to donate care products for these
guys, Michelle tells you how below. PetCo is also being contacted for supplies
and food as they have been helpful in other confiscation situations.
Brianna is a GSPCA rescue volunteer, and we are very proud of her
incredible effort in this terrible situation. If anyone lives near to the place
where these dogs will be, I am sure she can use help with walking, handling,
cleaning and anything else you are willing to do, even if it is a bath or two.
This is the result of the economy, folks. One fellow set his kennel on
fire. We must all hang together, or we will surely all hang separately. Thank
you for you caring, consideration and whatever you can do to help. All the best,
Nancy Campbell, GSPCA Rescue Chair.

Hi everyone! I have received updated information about
the 75 GSPs from the Missouri kennel fire. There are several items of
interest, all outlined below, so please read thoroughly.
I have just
spoken to Brianna in KS. Her group, Midwest PAWS, will be taking in all 75
GSPs tomorrow, as the MO Dept of Agriculture has offered to transport the dogs
to her. They would only release the dogs to a licensed MO rescue. Brianna’s
rescue vet has offered his adoption center, which has 40 kennels, and, extra
space for crates. The kennel fire resulted in burn injuries to some dogs. The
most critically injured dogs were taken in by a local MO Humane Society, but
Brianna expects some of the dogs that arrive tomorrow will have some minor
burns that will require a bit of extra veterinary care. And, we do not yet
know whether any of the bitches are pregnant.
Here are some of the
current needs:
There is an IMMEDIATE NEED for funds for veterinary
care. The estimate for the “basics” on each dog (vaccines, spay/neuter, HW
test, etc.) is about $120. There may be more of a discount available, given
the volume, but that is the initial estimate based on the vet’s normal
rescue pricing. I will be setting up a fundable.org fundraiser for these dogs
in the coming days, but the funds through such a fundraiser are not delivered
immediately, only upon completion of the fundraiser. Therefore, if you are
able to make a monetary donation for the immediate needs of the dogs, please
do so through the Pay Pal link on the group’s website: http://www.midwestpaws.com.
Please note that Brianna’s group also places Weims and English Pointers,
but ALL of the funds received through this link will be dedicated to the GSPs
in need.
The group desperately needs crates, blankets, bedding,
food, and other supplies (leashes, collars, toys, etc. would also be helpful).
A great way to make this happen is to shop online, and have the items shipped
directly to the address below. I suggest a wholesale site like www.petedge.com
for great pricing on the basics. Or, you can use other online retailer of
choice. All deliveries should be shipped to:
Midwest PAWS C/O Gail
Russell 1109 Blue Branch Drive Grain Valley, MO
64029 816-847-0908
Brianna has already arranged for a TV News
crew to be waiting when the dogs arrive. Hopefully, the story will provide her
group with some much needed volunteer help in caring for the dogs while they
are housed at the vet’s kennel facility.
Brianna’s group will assign a
number and name to each and every dog. There will be a database created with
sex/approx age info, etc. As they get to know each dog better, more
information will be added. Brianna has already enlisted the help of a local
behaviorist, in case there are dogs that exhibit a need for a professional
evaluation for possible behavioral issues.
I will be Brianna’s
communication representative for the duration of this process. She will be
busy caring for and evaluating the dogs, so she will not have time to answer
e-mails, or coordinate the communication as the situation progresses.
Therefore, if you or your rescue colleagues are interested in
assisting with any of the dogs, please contact ME directly at
msalyers@gsprescuene.org. If your individual state or regional programs have
room for just one dog (or more), please contact me at this address. I will be
sending out an addendum to this message with more information on the process.
Please stay tuned...
I will also be updating the group with photos and
details about the dogs as they come in. I will be in touch with all of you
when the fundable.org fundraising page has been set-up, and will ask that you
cross-post to your rescue contacts and group mailing
lists.

Nancy,
I live in the UP of Michigan and would like to offer my assistance if there is clerical, phone calls, thank you letters, follow up with adopters etc. I am a 25 year vet tech, obedience instructor and managed a Humane Society. I will also talk with my husband and see if it is possible to train at least 1 or 2 for adoption or possibly adopt. Anything I can do. I wrote Brianna and offered my services but wanted to pass the same on to you and Michelle as well.

There are 75 GSPs headed to one of our volunteers, who is also part of a group called Midwest PAWS. The group does GSP/Pointer/Weim rescue in MO and KS. I sent out a detailed note to our volunteer list last evening, so I am pasting it below, as it contains all the information you will need if you’d like to help with this situation. Please note once the dogs arrive and I have some photos, etc., I will be setting up a formal fundraising effort, but for now, the need for
financial support and supplies is dire. All details are below:

Hi Nancy I'm sure you have heard about the rescue of many sporting dogs/pups in my backyard. It is unbelievable how many "kennels" are raided here. This one set fire to the kennel when he thought he was caught. The Humane Society here in MO is very active in rescuing many dogs and other animals in this area and we support them to the best or our ability. Digger, Clio and I marched in their fund raiser last summer and raised a lot of money. What do you know about these GSPs rescued this week? We're, unfortunately, not in the position of taking any dogs (no kennel and we work long hours) and have two other dogs. I'm hoping that the national rescue is involved....it is really an ugly situation. Hope all is well
there in the NE. Maria
Hello my old and very dear friend. It is good to hear from you even on this sad topic. Yes, Michelle Salyers who now lives in Ohio, is the volunteer coordinator who is orchestrating the salvation of the GSPs in the group. She is also coordinating the fundraiser. Do you think you and Norman could help with pulling in money for this? I am copying your note to Michelle, so that she can contact you directly. Will we see you in Colorado in May? All the best and I will copy you on organizational posts on this situation. Love to both, Nance

The River Valley website shows horses, goats, and such also. Do these have
