Dear listers, another sad story. Is anyone near enough to check out the GSP? The whole thing sounds terrible. Get up with Elizabeth if you can at least do something. All the best, Nancy Campbell

This came from Setter Rescue.  There's a German Shorthaired Pointer in that situation :-(  Can anyone close by help, even if to id the GSP?

Subject: Russian Llewellin Setters in AR

Bonnie -

I live in Little Rock, AR, and do bird dog rescue - I have volunteered for ACES and IBR in the past, but now work independently trying to place sporting breed dogs with various rescues across the country.  I discovered a terrible breeder/trainer situation here in Arkansas through a "free to good home" ad.  This guy has 21 dogs on chains with little or no shelter.  Brittanys, Setters (supposedly "Russian Llewellins" - but who knows), and a gsp.  All covered in ticks - but most actually look pretty healthy otherwise - except for "Dot", the mother to 7 puppies 6 months old.  I took her Thursday night - had her vetted Friday morning - she is skin and bones, covered in fleas and seed ticks, has hooks, whips, heartworms, and is terribly anemic.  We spayed her Friday, but won't do the hw tx until we get some weight on her and get her worms treated.  We have started her on Doxycycline for pre-hw tx.  I am not sure why this particular dog wa s in such poor shape - I don't think they liked her very much because she is gun shy and afraid of men.  She is the one that is supposed to be the Russian Llewellin.  She is a tricolor - or will be when she grows some hair!
At any rate, this guy has the seven puppies - 4 males, 3 females - all look to be blue beltons, some pretty dark ones.  He is going to try to get $50.00 each for them - but I bet I could talk him out of them for next to nothing - he was very interested in the rescue concept and said he just wants them to go to good homes.  He has a hunting outfit but didn't raise any birds this year, and I sure didn't see any of his apartments occupied - I think they are having some financial issues.  He is also trying to sell some of his Brittanys.
These poor pups are living in filth - I will attach some photos.  Would you be interested in getting them?  Or Dot the Mom?  if so, I can get them, have them vetted, and we can work on getting them to you.  I hate to think of what their futures hold where they are...  I will help financially as much as I am able to - could even front the vetting money and get paid back upon adoption.
Please let me know - I can't these poor babies off my mind, and winter is coming.  i offered Dot to ACES, but not the pups.  They said they were too far away to help - but I will foster Dot until she is placed.
thanks so much
