I have a question about the CHIC numbers.  Since CERF must be done on an annual basis, does that mean that once one has had their CHIC certification for a year, it automatically goes away until you re-CERF ?   CERF clinics are really hard to come by out here in the Southwest....usually not more than twice a year and that's if you make those shows...

Cathy, do you know?

By the way, as of this morning, there were 90 Shorthairs listed on CHIC. We've come quite a way in a year.

I don't think so.  My Baci has a CHIC number and her last CERF that I actually sent in was in '03.

What I have heard is once you get the chic number it doesn't matter if you re cerf, they keep the CHIC.

Chic doesn't take the # away it just notes the updated cerf. I must say that I should have been the first to get my CHIC numbers but I still haven't sent them in yet. After I get through the GSPCSD specialty (I'm the chair, in all my spare time) next weekend I will get on that. Leita

Hi Phyllis, The CHIC number stays the same but the entry for CERF in the data base for your dog will say TESTED and then the date under final conclusion. I need to re-CERF my Jaeger as he was last tested in 05. Jaeger was #54 out of the 90 in the database and I can tell you, it is amazing how valuable the CHIC database can be. Recently a friend of mine asked me to help her find a Dachshund to show. I went to the OFA database to learn about any health issues and from there, the CHIC database (I know nothing about Dachshunds!). There are only 34 Dachsunds listed in CHIC!! And whenever my friend would contact a breeder and ask about CHIC or even the OFA database for that matter, the standard answer across the board is that it costs money to have your dog listed in the databases, although they claimed that they did the appropriate health testing. Even though it seems we have a long way to go with our breed, I think GSP breeders are on the right track. It seems encouraging anyway.
