I field trialed for about 3 years, then used the el collar, then about 25 years of traditional obedience, and became stuck on Dr Ian Dunbar DVD PHD, from England and went thru Berkeley for Dog Aggression, and so he established Association of Pet Dog Trainers back in the early 90’s. Went to about 5 nationals and fell in love with the clicker which is used at all zoos, etc. I started clicker training obedience classes at 2 Junior Colleges about 94, still there today, and have accomplished 2 ¾ Master Hunters in the bird field, 8 Junior Hunters who are working on their MH, using the clicker.

I recommend Bob Bailey, Morgan Spector, Karen Pryor PHd, and they are all over the internet on various Yahoo Lists.  Karen has had a contest at her website, www.dontshotthedog.com with audiovisuals at You Tube with a gal demonstating the clicker in heeling, horse, fish, etc. If you can type, you can click.

I do my bird training not with a bird, but regular old fashioned confirmation table, or kitchen table with rubber mat and teach the first thing, WHOA. You have a pointer which must stand & point, WHOA is the most important word in the word, or as we competition folks say, STAY.

If you go to www.apdt.com and look up trainers by your state, maybe you can hook up with somebody. Or clicker training with positive gun dogs. If you will send me an email privately, I can send you stuff.  Sue eh has a fantastic website, retired judge and husband is a vet , they have llamas, and she goes by it step by step.

I have loaded you up with unfamiliar nonsense,  do a DOGPILE search, put in clicker training, and you will come up with thousands of websites.

Bob Bailey was married to Marian Bailey PHD, skinner from Harvards who did the research on operant conditioning. Look these words up.

I was a librarian for 25 years,  about the newest method of dog training around and I am always looking, maybe the researcher in me, clicker training is the latest and most scientific. You don’t need to purchase a book, get the old fashioned notebook, copy pages as you go to websites, and underline to your hearts content.
