Being a GSP breeder and all-breed obedience instructor for 25+ years my advice is as follows:  Enroll in a group basic obedience course asap.  Find a trainer that does NOT use food to train.  Best method is teaching your dog to listen to you because it respects you not because you are bribing it with food!  Correct when wrong, praise when done right.  Use a small link chain choke collar or small pinch collar- do NOT use a haltie or gentle leader device- they do not train the dog just inhibit his movement.  All commands should be given ONCE and then make the dog do what you said and immediately praise when action is complete.  Patience, Practice, & Praise!  Call your local vet's offices or kennel club to help find a qualified trainer.

Well hello everyone....i finally got my GSP about a month ago.  Im so excited.  But...i need some help.  I dont have a GSP group where im from so i'm hopeing some of you can give me some direction. 

My male GSP will be 12 weeks old on friday.  He will not be a show dog but will be hunted a great deal.  I know he is still a puppy but i feal that i need to get started on some obediance with him and i just dont really know were to start.  If some of you could direct me to some great websites.....or could give me a little direction here i would greatly appreciate it.
