A few months ago on this list, we had numerous posts about how to handle the delicate situation of majors that are broken by dogs that either don't show up or bump up to BOB when they finish.

Well, we are going to have a real life demonstration of that situation this coming weekend at the Springfield shows in MA. Of the four shows, three are exactly a major in either dogs or bitches. There are numerous dogs in the area that only need a major to finish. A dog finishing any day could deprive all the others of more opportunities for majors in subsequent shows.

It is going to be very interesting to see how exhibitors choose to handle this situation.

These are MBFshows so the results will be on infodog.

Well, the one I am showing needs both majors and a couple of singles, so I won't be the blue meany anyway, but were I to finish one, I would be happy to stay in and show to hold the major for others. I would think anyone would do that for the rest of the GSP community, Nancy

And in an idyllic world, that would always happen.
But, if I do leave my dog in to hold the major, please do not expect that I will back off my dog or deliberately make him look bad for anyone. I will tell you this ahead of time.

If you beat me, you beat me fairly and squarely or not at all or you beat me out of the classes for Breed or BOS.  This is always a point of contention because some weekends are just yours, regardless.

I've done both...made my later BIS boy look horrible to lose to a mediocre dog for the major(dog never did finish,)  and left one in, telling people that I would not deliberately make my dog look bad. Your dog is giving you his all...why should you demean him?.  The only thing that kept us from taking the second major was that I literally stood on my dog's foot on the last lineup.  After that one, all I heard was complaints from the winner about how I tried to steal the major from her dog...  So, whaddya gonna do?

Not really trying to be difficult, but if the major is on the money, what are the chances that it will hold? That would be so iffy out here in the SW, and yet you still have to go so you don't be "the blue meanie" LOL!

Good luck to you guys...I know where you are coming from.

The major held. Nobody failed to come. It was right on the money. Nancy

Results are already up on Infodog for the MA shows from Thursday through Saturday.  It's just Sunday that is not up yet.

WB/BOW today was Mariah BDN Ayla Stole My Heart CD RN JH who now needs only one point to finish, and at just over two is really racking up the titles. She is owned by Pam Parshall of VT, and co-owned by her humble breeders, who occasionally are allowed to show her.

Interesting information that the WD Zambo Silesia was a recent German import, Janet. I wondered about his difference in type, and thought he was quite nice -- was in contention just about every day, I think, and took the major one other day. Seeing a young import come in and really hold his own in sophisticated competition does our breed proud, I think.

Congratulations to all the winners of majors this weekend -- as Nancy noted earlier, the majors held all four days! Was nice having Valerie and Liza with us for the weekend -- don't know how they did today, but won the Group yesterday.

Thanks Sandra, one of the majors went to a little girl I show for Art and Barbara Vitarius and Dee Stelmach, Stelor's Homesteader Diadem. Vanessa is my Maddie's granddaughter, sired by Dee's Fergus. She is fourteen months. I know Art and Barbara were happy. Liza got two group seconds and a group first this weekend, and it was nice for Diane to be able to see her. She is usually waiting for the phone calls! The import was interesting, and yes, he did get one of the majors. Once he settles into being shown, he will finish in a hurry. All the best, Nancy C
