Hi Jeff, Our local all-breed Kennel Club offers a 'puppy socialization' class and basic-thru-advanced obedience classes at reduced rates for KC members. You might also check out NAVHDA (North American Versatile Hunting Dog Assoc) -- www.navhda.org -- and look for a Chapter within reasonable distance from you. Regional NAVHDA chapters hold regular training days where folks who are new at the sport can learn how to bring their young hunting companions along. We did that with our first GSP and have never regretted it. Many of us don't have GSP groups near us, so you know you're not the only one.
My GSP clubs are 3-4 hours in 2 different directions and it is the same distance to my 2 regional NAVHDA chapter training days. Perhaps if you told us your region, there will be someone on the list who can give you some more precise answers regarding clubs in your area. Congratulations on your new GSP puppy!! I'm sure he has you wrapped around his little paw by now.
