Kathleen, I’ve never had a problem, I rear my birds on shavings.  It may be the incubation that is causing this.

Subject: [gsp-l] Spraddle legs in Quail chicks

I am wondering if anyone else out there raising their own quail for training with.  If you do, can you tell me what you put in the bottom of your brooder to prevent spraddle legs in the chicks?  About half of mine end up with it from this one brooding pair of quail get it, so it's possible it's just bad genetics, but I am hoping it's not.  If you have any suggestions as to what to put in the bottom of the brooder pen to help rectify this problem I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,

Kathleen
