Hi guys,  My name is Tony and I am new to the shorthair world.  I just got my first one her name is Katy and she is 15 weeks old.  She has been a terrific dog so far and I have very high hopes for her.  Her obediance training is coming along fine.  She sits and stays very well, we are working on whoa and the kennel right now too.  I am running into problems with the whole fetching thing.  She doesn't like to brind the ball (or whatever we are playing with) all of the way back to me.  She tends to drop it about 5 feet in front of me and just keep running to me.  I have been using treats for most of her training along with praise, but I am lost when it comes to this fetching thing I just don't see any progress.  Any ideas.....Thanks guys.

Hi Tony, glad you are so happy with your gs!. For 15 weeks it sounds like she is doing great, just keep it up. As far as the fetching goes, I would just withhold the treats or praise when she drops it. When she gets a little older (after she gets her perm. teeth) you can do a trained retrieve, or maybe just a hold and carry. Do you plan on doing test/trials with her, or just us her for your personal hunting dog?
